Ayldarzi
The Ayldarzi are a faerie species originating in the Feywild—descendants of nocturnal, predatory fae who evolved into a more diurnal and socially complex people. They are biologically similar to elves but with distinct anatomical and magical traits.
Physically, they stand between 5½ and 6 feet tall and possess two natural forms:
- Elven form – Humanoid, with slightly sharper teeth, semi-slit pupils, and hair and irises that often carry 'unusual' hues (ie purple hair, pink eyes).
- Glittered form – Covered in tiny iridescent, scale-like skin that refracts light (granting minor physical protection), with four retractable, dragonfly-like wings and fully slit pupils. This form enables flight (around 60 ft per round) and reflects their predatory ancestry.
Ayldarzi develop slowly, matching human growth until about age four, when their wings begin to form. By five, their biology becomes partly magical—digestive waste is metabolized by ambient magic, so they rarely produce waste unless sick or intoxicated.
They are primarily carnivorous but enjoy dairy, sweets, fruit, and starchy foods like bread and potatoes. Vegetables are treated as garnish or decoration. Hunting—especially of dangerous prey—is a cultural pastime.
Males tend toward duller coloration, while females display brighter colors and iridescence. Their society mirrors elven culture in grace and artistry but retains a wild, instinct-driven edge from their predatory heritage.
They are native exclusively to the Feywild; in the mortal world, they usually exist only as exiles or survivors of magical displacement events.
