1550s - Hapsburg creation of Landesgerichte (provincial courts) that absorb the old Graf courts. Klaus becomes “Protector of Church Property” rather than “Lord of the Valley.” He’s now a noble landlord rather than a feudal ruler. On paper.

  • Right to levy troops without imperial consent.
